Power Wheels Charge Time Calculator

Power Wheels Charge Time Calculator

Find out exactly how long it will take to recharge your Power Wheels battery from dead to 100%.

How to use this calculator

  • Step 1: Select your Power Wheels model from the dropdown to load its factory battery size.
  • Step 2: Choose your battery chemistry (Stock Lead Acid vs aftermarket Lithium).
  • Step 3: Enter your charger’s output rating in Amps, then hit Calculate.
  • Critical tip: Never use a standard 10 Amp automotive car charger on a stock Power Wheels SLA battery! Pushing that much current into a small 9.5Ah battery will boil the acid, permanently destroying the battery and creating a severe fire hazard. Keep SLA charge rates under 3 Amps.

How this calculator works

To calculate charge time, you divide your battery’s total “fuel tank” size (Amp-Hours or Ah) by the rate at which your charger pumps electricity back into it (Amps). For example, theoretically, a 1 Amp charger would take 10 hours to fill a 10 Ah battery.

However, we must account for chemical efficiency. Stock Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) batteries are highly inefficient at absorbing electricity. As they charge, resistance builds up and creates heat. Because of this thermal loss, an SLA battery requires about 25% more energy to be pushed into it than its actual capacity holds. Lithium batteries, on the other hand, absorb energy with roughly 95% efficiency, charging significantly faster on the exact same charger.
